The Kansas Arborists Association (KAA) is a professional organization dedicated to improving the quality of tree care
through the training and certification of arborists.
KAA was founded in 1957 by a group of 33 arborists who were interested in promoting professionalism in the industry. Over the years, the association developed a certification program to distinguish members who successfully completed a training course and met other requirements.
KAA’s Certified Arborists have years of experience in the industry, with a strong reputation for excellence and reliability. Our association’s commitment to continuous learning helps Certified Arborists and other members stay alert to the latest science and safety techniques.
We host 3 major training events per year: Shade Tree Conference in January, Field Day in June, and Arborist Training Course in October
KAA’s current membership includes nearly 400 people, with over 200 Certified Arborists. Anyone with an interest in arboriculture may join the association. Certification requires a combination of training and experience.
KAA works with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and other organizations to create additional learning opportunities for arborists in the state, as well as providing scholarships for college students with interest in arboriculture.
What is a certified arborist?
Arborist certification is a professional credential earned by completing training, passing a comprehensive exam, and meeting experience requirements.
In Kansas, arborists must complete KAA’s Arborist Training Course or an arboriculture course through an accredited college or university, complete 2-4 years of practical experience (time depends on category of certification), and have 2 references from other certified arborists. Commercial arborists must also provide proof of insurance.
Maintaining certification requires periodic attendance at training events.
